Our 2003 vacation was wonderful. Once a year, we take time from the life of work, house, kids and the bicycle to relax, socialize and learn. Washington and Lee's Alumni College is college done the right way. Set on the wonderfully beautiful 19th Century campus in the Blue Ridge Mountains, it offers vital, interesting classes, discussion with both faculty and fellow students and great food. This year we had a course on Understanding the Middle East. Our faculty were Larry Bland from the Marshall Library, Muqtedar Khan from the Brookings Institute, Asra Nomani from the Wall Street Journal, Bart Palmer from Clemson, Ori Soltes from American University, and Caroline and John Williams both from William and Mary. Our hosts - as always - were Susie Thompson and Rob Fure.
